WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item upgrades from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to level up weapons tools, armor, and accessories. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show the preview of an item upgrade's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and the current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of getting the latest recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was modified a bit, and several new features added. After an upgrade has been completed to a certain item level upgrade (squareblogs.net) level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is true even if those items come from a different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have a number of options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade item path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities, or by doing dungeons or raids in any difficulty to earn lower-level gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons that have a high difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it will bring some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests only have one purpose, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrade equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character that will be able to benefit from the account-wide discount when all slots are full of high-quality gear.
