WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random extra substat is also added to each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the item being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They can be bought by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade item has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using the help of button, which displays a preview of the item at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Another notable change is that crests only have one use, so it's important to use them properly. It's best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the best gear that you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, that will be able to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all slots are filled with top-quality gear.
