How to Replace an audi car key replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

volkswagon-logo.jpgCharles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. The code won't show without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky as there are two different connector pins, and they have different functions but the best way to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read around 1000 ohms when it is at full operation. Examine for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you have problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, i experienced a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing anymore. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole, and when i start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 i get zero Ohm. I assume that the problem is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've all other possibilities out. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them: simply put your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing upwards). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines requires to be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor in my area G28 to achieve this. If either of these go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

A damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox or a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, or a misfire while in the gear. If you have any of these problems, it is most likely that your sensor is failing and requires replacement audi key fob. They are cheap and easy-to-find particularly when they're a Bosch unit like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this component is an option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be the reason behind a slew of issues in your car. It is an important part of the transmission in your audi a3 key fob because it relays information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the engine is turning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It sends an electrical signal through a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to control fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and audi tt key fob the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should observe approximately 1000 ohms resistance between those two pins. This part is common across the audi spare key replacement 80-100-200-RS2 range, beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 Du So, you may find good ones in wrecking yards.
